Summary

A summary from a fan named Choko, one of the American fans' most valuable contacts IN Korea! Available on this message thread

Admiral Yi Soon-shin(1545-1598) is a legendary hero who saved the falling country in the late 16th century when the international 7-year war between Korea, China and Japan broke out.

Can you believe that Admiral Yi won 23 victories out of 23 marine battles during the war? An unbelievable record, but it's true.

The war(1592-1598) was a turning point in the East Asian history. It resulted in the fall of Toyotomi Hideyosi reign as well as the birth of Tokugawa Bakuhu in Japan. It also brought the fall of Ming dynasty as well as the birth of Ching dynasty in China. In Korea? The strict social class system and Confucian order gradually started to break down after the war.

This TV series is a story of a man who was great but lonely.

----- SPOILER  ALERT ----- SPOILER  ALERT ------

----- SPOILER  ALERT ----- SPOILER  ALERT ------

There are a few incredible historical facts about Admiral Yi Sunshin that are beyond belief.

- He had 23 victories out of all 23 naval battles he fought.

- He never lost a single ship under his command while sinking over 500+ Japanese ships.

- He lost less than 300 of his men while killing over 60,000+ Japanese soldiers.

- Even with this incredible military record, the admiral was demoted to the rank of private twice in his career.

- The most incredible victory came when he was demoted to the rank of private from the rank of Supreme Commander of the Navy. After his demotion, once invincible 400+ ships strong Korean armada under a different commander was decimated by the Japanese Navy.. Only 12 ships survived the battle. Because of this catastrophic disaster, Admiral Yi was reinstated as the Supereme Commander and led this rag-tag army of 12 ships to victory against 130 Japanese armada.

If that's not the most dramatic setup for a climax, I don't know what is
